Match Report: VCF Mestalla earn hard-fought point in home opener against Peña Deportiva (0-0)
VCF Mestalla faced SCR Peña Deportiva on matchday 2 of Segunda B at 12 pm kick-off time behind closed doors. The game saw two sides with compact and units which ended in a goalless draw as five U19 players featured in the game against the league leaders.
The oepening minutes saw a finely poised contest as both sides tried to dominate the game with clear-cut chances few and far between for either side.
The game gradually opened up towards the half-hour mark. An intricate link-up move between Gozálbez and Hugo Gozálbez finished off by Gozálbez forced Javi Seral into a difficult stop.
The vistors responded immediately at the other end through a Crespo effort but Unai Etxebarria turned it behind for a corner kick. The first half flinished locked together at 0-0 with all to play for in the second half.
The second half started with the away side enjoying two dangerous forays into the box to which VCF replied through a Fran Navarro double chance first sending a placed effort inside the post which was kept out by Seral following a great run in-behind the opposition defence.
Moments later, he enjoyed a golden chance inside the six-yard box but his effort blazed over the bar following a great Carlos Pérez delivery from the right-hand side.
Both sides pushed for a late winner, but the scoreline remained unchanged and the spoils were shared in a battling contest.
